Professional Experience and Expertise

For nearly four decades, Tom represented clients in an unusually diverse mix of cases, ranging from patent infringement to professional ethics, product liability to false advertising, and unfair competition to employment. His experience includes the following areas, among others:

  • commercial disputes, including contractual claims, post-acquisition matters, loan and other banking disputes
  • consumer class actions
  • employment 
  • false advertising
  • food, drug and cosmetic disputes
  • product liability
  • professional ethics and liability
  • unfair competition and antitrust

From 2009-2013, Tom was a global co-chair for the commercial litigation practice of Sidley Austin LLP, and head of that firm's Los Angeles litigation group. He has been recognized as a "Litigation Star" by Benchmark Litigation in 2010 and 2014 and by Who's Who Legal in 2012-2014. He has  served as arbitrator and mediator in numerous cases, and has participated in dozens of mediations and arbitration hearings as an advocate.
